Q

Steps of Scientific Method:

A

A general style of investigation, not a rigid step-by-step process. Inferring and Hypothesizing, Designing controlled experiments, Collecting Data, Analyzing Conclusions, Exploration and discovery, community analysis and feedback.

Designing an Experiment:

A

To design an experiment you have to make observations, a hypothesis, and then you must perform a procedure with an experimental group and a control group.

Q

Independent Variable (manipulated), dependent (responding), and controlled variables:

A

Controlled variables are the variables that do not change throughout the procedure. The Manipulated variable is the variable that changes (there can be a manipulated testing group and a control group). Responding variable is how the organism tested responds to the manipulated variable.

Hypothesis vs. Theory:

A

Theory applies to a well tested explanation that unifies a broad range of observations, no theory is considered absolute truth, as new evidence is uncovered a theory may be revised or replaced by a more useful explanation.

Characteristics of living thing :

A

Living things are made up of cells

They are based on a universal genetic code called DNA-organisms store the information they need to live, grow, and reproduce

They Reproduce. There Are two categories for reproduction: In sexual reproduction, cells from two different parents unite to form the first cell of the new organisms. Offspring are not genetically identical to parent cells. In Assexual reproduction a single parent produces offspring that are genetically identical to itself.

They grow and develop

They respond to the environment. A stimulus is a single to which an organism’s response

They maintain an internal balance. Conditions outside may change, but conditions inside the organisms remain constant, homeostasis,

Taken as a group, living things change over time

Living things obtain materials and use energy. Organisms can break down and build up materials- metabolism.,
