Cellular Respiration Flashcards
Balanced equation for cellular respiration:
C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6 O 2 –> 6 CO 2 + 6 H 2 O + ENERGY
Location in all cells:
Cellular respiration takes place in the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells.
Relationship between Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis:
Both are processes within the cell which make chemical energy available for life.
Autotrophs vs. heterotrophs:
Autotrophs are producers and are organisms that collect energy from sunlight or inorganic substances to produce food, Heterotrophs are consumers that get their energy by consuming other organisms.
ATP – structure and function:
Consists of adenine and a triphosphate tail of three phosphate groups. Storing and transferring energy into cells.
