Why was the Schlieffen Plan made?
Because Germany felt surrounded by the Triple Entente
What was the purpose of the Schlieffen Plan?
So that Germany would not have to fight both countries at the same time.
What did the Schlieffen Plan state would happen?
That Russia would take a long time to prepare it’s army.
It would take 6 weeks to defeat France and got through Belgium to surprise them.
After those 6 weeks Germany would be able to send soldiers up to Russia to fight off them.
Why was Germany going through Belgium not good?
Belgium and Britain had signed a treaty promising to protect them if they were attacked.
This made Britain declare war too.
How did this cause war?
Germany had to attack France as soon as Russia started getting their army ready to help Serbia.
By going through Belgium it meant that Britain then declared war too.
