How are they effecting food security in the Sahel
- They attack at times where food stores were exhausted of produced and new produced had been beginning to grow,
- Destroy new and all produce causing an extreme food shortage and food insecurity in the Sahel.
- Affected the farmers finance as they had invested their savings into the produced which had been destroyed and therefore suffered from unstable finance and a lack of money to be able to reinvest.
Solutions for the locust invasion
- Government spraying them with chemicals (but is causing deaths to livestock due to the chemicals)
- Helicopters are used to track swarms
Describe drought in the Sahel
Where farmers are unable to cope with the extreme drought season meaning there is a poor harvest causing extreme food shortages and insecurity.

- Loss of crops and animals
- Eating seeds indented to plant for the next year
- Food price inflation
- Subsistence farmers are relying on non government organizations for food (NGOs)
- Climate change has increased the number of droughts

- Transhumance- moving livestock from one grazing ground to another in a seasonal cycle
