- Mid- & late-seventeenth-century British conflicts rooted in questions of religious difference
- Constitutional settlements of post-1688 designed to smooth over many of those differences, unify the nation under the banner of the re-established Church of England
- But it was always a compromise that that left many Britons on the outside, limiting who could participate in British civic life (Dissenters, Catholics)
