Sicily (the heel and toe of Italy) Greeks were on the east and Carthaginians were on the west.

Palatine (Latium) was just under to the west of of Etruria

What natural protection did Rome have?
The river Tiber was one one side and the seven hills were on the other side. The alps were also above Rome which served as a barrier.
What protection did Italy have?
With the added protection that Rome had, Italy also had protection of its own.
Sea barriers on the sides of Italy.
Less threat of invasion as there were bad harbors in eastern Italy
How did Rome help unify Italy?
Rome was a good location for a capital city.
Italy was a crossroad with the Mediterranean Sea and Rome was a crossroad with Italy

How did the twins end up in the river Tiber ?
Their uncle threw the babies in the river to die so he could claim the throne.
How did Romulus and Remus survive?
A she wolf found the boys washed up on the river bank. She suckled the babies.
How did Romulus and Remus make it back to Rome ?
Many years after the she wolf found them, a Shepard discovered the boys and took them to Rome so that one of them could be king. They killed their uncle and went to the auguries to decided which man would be king.
Who became The first King of Rome?
Romulus was declared king and named the city after himself…Rome
How did the empire develop?
It started as a kingdom with Romulus being the first king.
The kingdom ended when Etruscan decided to become leaders and introduced hereditary causing complete monarchy and tyrants of the kings
The republic began and a senate was created. The senate governed Rome.
The Roman Empire was established after the republic fell apart. The empire was too big to be ruled from one point so the emperor at the time divided Rome into an eastern and western empire. The separation was not successful so Rome went back to one.
