The Role Of Technology In Sport Flashcards
What is quantitative and qualitative research
Quantitative:
-formal
-objective
-systematic process
-numerical data
Qualitative
-Words
-Subjective
-Feelings
-Emotions
-Opinions
Name the functions of sports analytics
(give examples if necessary)
Monitoring fitness for performance:
-heart rate monitor
-measures most effective exercise intensity for effective performance
Skill and technique development:
-Video analysis
-Technical, tactical and statistical data
-Data can be used in follow-up training sessions where changes can be made to optimise performance
Injury prevention
Game Analysis
Talent Identification
Name and describe 2 ways that analytics is used in injury prevention
(give benefits and/or drawbacks if necessary)
Vibration therapy:
-low frequency mechanical stimulation of muscle areas to aid exercise recovery and rehabilitation
-increase muscle mass/power
-improved circulation
-reduced effect of DOMS
Electrostimulation:
-impulses are generated bu a device and delivered through electrodes on the skin in direct proximity to the muscles to be stimulated
-good for rehabilitation
-increase strength and power
-Long term exposure can cause saturation of muscles so that will limit the effects gained
How are analytics used in game analysis
(Think coaches and players)
-Use of quantitative data
-Video is captured and analysed in real time to provide feedback to coaches and players during games
-Used in hopes of gaining a competitive advantage over opponents
-Coaches use data to make/change tactics and strategies
How are analytics used in talent identification/scouting
-Information received can build up a profile of a performer and can measure effectiveness of training pathway and document progress
How has technology helped disabled athletes
(Give examples as well)
-Prosthetic limbs (amputees) or modified equipment
-Designed with lightweight materials
-Unique to each athlete’s specific needs
-Swimming pool hoists, lifts and ramps has increased swimming participation
-carbon fibre blades for sprinters
-lightweight wheelchaies
How has technology helped with facility development
(Give examples as well)
Floodlights:
-allow sport to be played in darker hours
Synthetic surfaces:
-enables play all year round in different weather conditions
Olympic Legacy:
The use of facilities that were used in the 2012 olympics
Indoor all-purpose/multi-use facilities
