What is the role of a Pharmacy Technician?
The role of a Pharmacy Technician is to manage medication, supply medication to patients and to help advise patients about the medication. This can involve showing how it is taken, how many times a day they need to take the medication, and potential alternatives such as if the patient would like to quit smoking, what options are avaliable to them.
What other roles do they do?
Pharmacy Technician can also prepare and make medication if ready made medicine is not avaliable. This could be like liquid morphine, where we would need to prepare a liquid solution to a certain strength.
What soft skills do you need to be a good Pharmacy Technician?
You need to have good communication skills in order to help inform patients on the medication they will be taking.
Good organisational skills, as you need to know where you have put medicine so colleagues can find it.
What hard skills does a Pharmacy Technician need?
A Pharmacy Technician needs to be methodical and have an eye for accuracy as you don’t want to be giving out the wrong medication to somebody or the wrong amount.
