To provide Force protection to RAF bases, personnel, and assets in the CAGE.
+ Provide combat support to deployed air operations anywhere in the world
+ Fight on the ground to enable and ensure control of the air.
What are the secondary roles of a gunner?
Train other RAF personnel in defensive military skills
What specialisations are available to you as a RAF reg gunner?
- FAC: calling in strike aircraft and
helicopters in support of ground troops. - Ceremonial Duties with the queens colour squadron.
- Special Forces Support : JTAC / TACP.
- Paratrooper: Serving with II Squadron
- Sniper: an expert in camouflage and marksmanship.
How long is your initial basic training?
10-weeks

- To help you adjust to the military environment.
- To further develop one’s fitness and military training.
- To learn more about the RAF lifestyle
What is the specialist gunner course?
The arduous second phase of training.

20-weeks
What will you be taught during your phase two training?
How to operate and use weapons in a professional manner and how to survive and fight in all environmental conditions. This includes:
- Navigation
- Field Craft
- Dismounted close combat
- Phys
What will your first tour likely involve?

A posting to an operational RAF regiment squadron located within the UK.
Here I will consolidate your training and form part of teams responsible for providing force protection to RAF assets at home or deployed on operations or exercises.
What weapons systems will you learn how to operate
- Individual weapons (Glock 17 9mm)
- Machine guns (SA80)
- Antitank systems
- Armoured Vehicles (Requires to enable rapid mobility to protect RAF assets)
