The Respiratory System Flashcards
Why is it good to nose breath?
Lamina flow= high levels of diffusion Air is heated and filtered More efficient Air reaches the bottom of the lungs Nitric oxide maintained in he nose. Natural bronchodilator
What is the conducting zone?
Trachea to terminal bronchioles
No gas exchange
Gas transported by convection
Location of anatomical dead space
What is the respiratory zone?
Respiratory bronchioles to alveoli
Gas exchange at alveolar - capillary membrane
Gas transported by diffusion
Large SA
What is ficks law?
Rate of diffusion= (area of diffusion surface times difference in concentration) divided by thickness of surface over which diffusion takes place.
What is the name of the interbronchiolar channels?
Channel of Martin
What is the name of the bronchiole-alveolar channel?
Channel of lamber
What is the name of the interalveolar pore?
Pore of kohn
What do the collateral channels do?
If there is a blockage back pressure can be created by the collateral channels to move the blockage up the lungs
Characteristics of pulmonary circulation?
Low pressure system
Pulmonary artery receives all the output from the right heart
Bronchial circulation supplies airways
What is boules law?
Increase volume increase pressure
Normal pattern?
Rate Rhythmic active inspiration Unconscious /voluntary control Passive expiration ratio 2:1
Function of lungs?
Gaseous exchange Surfuctant production Reservoir for blood Filter Part of the immune system pH balance
