The Respiratory System Flashcards
What is the respiratory system responsible for?
Exchanging gases
providing the body with oxygen and removing waste gas such as carbon dioxide.
Oxygen gas forms about one fifth of the air around us
oxygen is essential without it we would die
carbon dioxide must be removed before it damages the body
Breathing
Breathing is done automatically without you having to think about it.This process started the moment you were born and you will continue to breathe till the day you die
Cell respiration
what does the term
respiration mean?
The term respiration describe both the action of breathing in an out and the chemical process that takes place in the cells of the body to release energy
breathing rate
the number of times you breathe in and out each minute As you get older you tend to breathe slower
Oxygen is needed by the body for respiration and during this process…
carbon dioxide is produced and these gases exchange in the lungs water vapour is also lost from the body in exhaled air
What are the four parts to the respiratory system?
what are the parts of the respiratory system?
nose where air is inhaled and exhaled
trachea which carries air into and out of the chest
the 2 lungs on each thoracic cavity
bronchi (singular bronchus)which connect the trachea to each side of the lungs
Nose.
Mouth.
Throat (pharynx)
Voice box (larynx)
Windpipe (trachea)
Airways (bronchi)
Lungs.
alveoli
ALVEOLI are the very small air sacs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place
what is the reagent used to test for proteins? and what is it made up of?
and what is the formula
what is the difference between breathing and respiration ?
biuret
HN(CONH 2) 2
Breathing is a physical process inhaling and exhaling whilst respiration is a chemical process and it releases energy
what is the formula for respiration?
food + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water +energy
