How Is the Children Act 2004 relevant?

A

This Act was set up to support multi-agency working to keep children safe. It also ensures that parents and all those who work with children are able to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. It includes two specific sections that focus on safeguarding.

Section 17 - Services must be put in place by local authorities to ‘safeguard and promote the welfare of children within their area who are in need’

Section 47 - The local authority has a duty to investigate instances where it has ‘reasonable cause to suspect that a child is suffering, or likely to suffer significant harm’

A

Includes provisions intended to protect young girls and be vigilant/know the signs to look out for that may indicate the risk of FGM. Under this Act is it an offence to fair to protect a girl from such a risk.

How is the Children and Families Act (Part 3: Children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities) 2014 relevant?

A

This Act was set up to improve services for children. Parents and families have more control over their child’s welfare. The Act sets out the requirement for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for children and young people with SEND.

A

This Act was brought in to respond to the risk of terrorism. It was introduced to ensure that relevant authorities consider the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and act to prevent radicalisation. This is also called the Prevent duty.
