Who was William Harvey?
He was the first known physician to describe circulation and the properties of blood being pumped to the brain and body by the heart. This was polished in ‘Anatomical Exercise on the motion of heart’ in 1628.
Who Thomas Sydenham?
An English Physician and author of the ‘Observationes medicae’, published in 1676.
He theorised that illness and disease could be categorised like plants and animals.
Who was Andreas Vesalius?
A flemish anatomist and physician.
Famous for his work on the anatomy of the human body.
He found over 300 mistakes in Galenas work and published them in ‘The Fabrica’ in 1543
When and what was The Great Plague?
1665, it was the last major epidemic of the bubonic plague to occur in England and it killed approximately 100000 in London.
Who were plague doctors?
Medical physicians who treated victims of the bubonic plague, they were famous for their black waxy coats and long bird-like masks.
When did the royal society meet for the first time?
1660
What was alchemy?
It was an early form of chemistry. Alchemy tried to turn one substance into another, most commonly gold.
