A

They prepared and sold remedies to physicians and directly to patients. Some also offered advice on how best to use them.
Most were men but some were also ‘wise women’ who sold herbal remedies.
Mostly trained through apprenticeships.
They were the most common form of treatment as they were the most accessible for those who couldn’t afford a physician.

A

They were male doctors who had to train at university for at least seven years.
they read from ancient texts and writings but didn’t have much practical experience.
They used clinical observations and handbooks to check patients conditions.\They were extremely expensive so only the rick could afford them.

What where hospitals like during this time?

A

there were relatively few hospitals so most were treated at home, specifically by a women.
Most hospitals were set up and ran by monasteries and were very popular.
The main purpose was for the patients to be cared for rather than actually treated.
they provided food, water and a warm place to stay.
Monks had access to books on healing and knew how to grow herbs and make herbal remedies.

What was the theory of the four humours?

A

The body was made up of four humours? liquids: black bile, yellow bile, blood and phlegm. it was thought that if they were imbalanced, it would cause illness.
