Augustinian monk, supporter of Luther. Radicalized Wittenberg in Luther’s absence. Stops being a priest.
Thomas Müntzer
Contemporary of Luther, inspired by his work. End times thought, believed Christ’s second coming was not long off and could hasten the way through a bloody cleansing of the earth. Launched revolts.
Peasant war
was a widespread popular revolt in the German-speaking areas of Central Europe, incorporated some principles and rhetoric from Luther. Muntzer became a key agitator.
Johann Tetzel
Fundraiser for the building of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Recruited the selling of indulgences in Germanic states. awoken Luther’s interest in selling indulgences.
