so-called on the three title pages (technically the second of the five slightly-differing 1861 impressions of the 1st edition.
Originality of GE
Great Expectation was one of the few Dickens novels that did not first appear in monthly serial parts
instead it appeared in 36 weekly numbers of Dickens’s periodical All the year round from December 1860 to August 1861.
+ Also GE was one of only 2 Dickens novels not to be illustrated as a first edition (the other being Hard times)
The 5 editions of this three deckers all have tile pages dated 1861 ;
the first (with no mention of an “edition” on the title pages) was published by July 6th
