Took control of Egypt on Alexander’s death(323BC)
Ruled from 282BC died at 85yrs old
Established Egypt as a major power in the Mediterranean
(Cyprus, parts of the eastern Mediterranean coastline)
Where they came from
They were from Macedonia so Greek
Egypt
The most secure and wealthiest area that Alexander left behind
A well-established agricultural system and organisation
Minerals and semi-precious stones in the mountainous areas
People used to being ruled by a good king
Natural defences on three sides and the fortress at Pelusium on the fourth
The early Ptolomies were good rulers
Maximised the economical potential of Egypt
Systemised the farming of the land
Accepted by the Egyptians because they participated in the religious aspects of kingship
