Ways that the protection of rights are similar?
A
- Both US and UK legislatures have passed legislation to protect citizen’s rights, such as the UK’s Equality Act 2010 and the US Civil Rights Act 1964:
- Equality Act 2010: law passed to bring together many different pieces of equality legislation, e.g. eqality pay act 1970, sex discrimination act 1975, race relations act 1976
- Civil Rights Act 1964: banned racial discrimination in voting, prohibited voting restrictions
- Both have independent judiciaries who defend the rights
- Rule of law applies to both countries

Ways that the protection of rights are different?
A
- Entrenched rights in the US can only be removed by a formal amendment, whereas civil liberties and rights are not entrenched in the UK
- US SC has far more power to protext civil rights than the UK SC does
