- June 2020 the US SC ruled 6-3 in R.G & G.R Harris funeral homes Inc v Equal opprtunity Employment Commission that employers could not sack workers for being trans

- Both have had long term debates about the rights of ethnic minorities
- Black people face a lot of inequalities, prejudices and disadvantages
- Debates over civil rights have been more central to US politics, with its history of segregation and racial discrimination, followed by the civil rights movement
- While the UK also had a civil rights campaign, there was no policy of formal segregation
- Today, debates focus on the disproportionately high number of prisoners from minority ethnic groups on th UK, and the fact that black men are x9 more likely than white men to be stopped abnd searched by the police
- Structural and institutional racism was put on the UK’s agenda by the 2020 BLM protests, inspired by those in the US
