The preterite tense is used to describe a single, completed action in the past
E.g. Yesterday I went shopping
Last night I watched Tv
Spanish example:
Ayer escuché musica
Yesterday I listened to music

A
To describe an event in the past and it is accompanied by a time indicator
E.g. El año pasado fui a españa
Last year I went to Spain

A
We simply remove the -ar/-er or -ir verb ending and add the appropriate preterite ending
