The Pressure Instruments Flashcards
26.37.1 Define the terms: Engine Torque :
Torque is a force which produces a twisting or turning motion
26.37.1 Define the terms: Engine Power. :
rate of doing work. Power = Work done divide by Time Taken
26.37.2 Relate horsepower to kilowatts
1 Hp= 3/4 Kw or 746 Kilowatts
26.37.3 Define rated power and explain the terms ‘rated altitude’ or ‘critical altitude’.
POH will normally state a rated power for the engines fitted to an Aircraft.
Rated altitude ( critical altitude) is the altitude at which power is developed at full throttle.
26.37.4 Explain the following in broad terms: Thermal efficiency
the Materials & construction used in the engine to keep warmth in
26.37.4 Explain the following in broad terms:
Mechanical efficiency:
relationship between mechanical power input and power output
26.37.4 Explain the following in broad terms: Volumetric efficiency:
how effectively the engine ‘breathes’ or draws in the induction charge.
26.37.6 Explain the general conditions for the most efficient engine operation.
High pressure & Low temperature
