Electricity and Magnetism Flashcards
26.20.2 Describe the function of the exhaust manifold.
The function of the exhaust manifold is to collect the products of combustion from each cylinder and discharge them into the air stream.
26.20.4 Explain the importance of proper sealing of the exhaust manifold.
A leaking exhaust manifold presents a fire hazard, and can lead to toxic gasses entering the cockpit
(CO-carbon monoxide).
26.20.6 Describe the possible sources, indications and associated danger of carbon monoxide gas.
A leaking/unsealed exhaust manifold can lead to carbon monoxide entering the cockpit. Another source is via cabin vents whilst using cabin heat. This is particularly dangerous because carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless poisonous gas.
