Irregular periods
Does not protect against STIs
Increased incidence of functional ovarian cysts
Initial S/E- breast tenderness, weight gain, acne and headaches

What advice should be given when starting POP?

Answer 2

If commenced within first 5 days of cycle then immediate protection
Otherwise 2 days additional
If switching from COCP no additional protection if continued directly from end of pill packet

What happens if missed pill on traditional POP?

Answer 3

<3 hours late= no additional action
>3 hours= take last pill asap, continue with rest of pack and use extra contraception until pill taking re-established for 48 hours
