The plus -que-parfait

A

Used to talk about what someone had done or what had occurred before another past action, event, or state, uses form of avoir or etre
Imparfait +past participle = plus-que-parfait.

Etre

A

Some verbs is motion as well as a few others take etre instead of avoir.

Use the Imparfait of to form the plus-que-parfait.of such verbs and make the past participle agree with the subject.

Les avocates ne savaient pas que vous etiez déjà partie.

The lawyers didn’t know that you had already left

Use the Imparfait of etre as the auxiliary. Make agreement whenever you would do for the passé compose

Auxiliary verb

A

A verb (such as have, do, or will) that determines the mood, tense, or aspect of another verb in a verb phrase.

Auxiliary verbs always precede main verbs within a verb phrase. Auxiliaries are also known as helping verbs. Contrast with lexical verbs. (See Examples and Observations, below.)
