The Peritoneum And Retroperitoneum Flashcards
What are the 2 layers of the peritoneal membrane and what do they create?
- Parietal
- Visceral
Create potential spaces
Peritoneal fold connecting small bowel to the posterior abdominal wall
Mesentery
Peritoneum attached to the colon that connects the transverse colon and sigmoid to the posterior abdominal wall
Mesocolon
Double layer of mesentery that connects the lesser curvature of the stomach and 1st part of duodenum to the visceral surface of the liver
Lesser omentum
Apron-like fold that connects the greater curvature of the stomach and the transverse colon
Greater omentum
This ligament travels from the umbilicus to the liver and conducts the ligamentum teres
Falciform ligament
These ligaments define the bare area of the liver
Coronary ligaments
This ligament is the remnant of the fetal umbilical vein and joins the LPV at the porta hepatis
Ligamentum teres
This ligament is the remnant of the fetal ductus venosum and attaches to the LPV
Ligamentum venosum
What do ligaments convey?
Blood, lymphatics and nerves
Which space is the most dependent portion of the subhepatic space?
Morison’s pouch
What structure divides the greater sac into supramesocolic and inframesocolic compartments?
Transverse mesocolon
What is the subphrenic space and what divides it into left and right?
Below the diaphragm, the falciform ligament
What are the 3 compartments of the retroperitoneum?
Anterior pararenal
Perirenal
Posterior pararenal
Which retroperitoneal compartment contains the kidneys, ureters, adrenals and great vessels?
Perirenal space
