- First, superior or bulb- the only portion that is intraperitoneal

- Mucosa- epithelial lining, inner most layer
- Submucosa- vessels, nourishment and transport
- Muscularis- muscle, responsible for movement
- Serosa- outer layer
What is the gut signature
Sonographic appearance:
Lumen- hyperechoic
Mucosa- hypoechoic
Submucosa- hyperechoic
Muscularis- hypoechoic
Serosa- hyperechoic
What contain rugae, valvulae conniventes, and haustra?
Rugae- stomach
Valvulae- small bowel
Haustra- large bowel
What is normal wall thickness?
Distended- 3mm
Non-distended- 5mm
What does symmetric and asymmetric thickening indicate?
Symmetric- inflammation
Asymmetric- malignancy
