what is the peritoneum?
continuous epithelium layer and layer of connective tissue that lines the abdominal cavity
what 2 parts is the peritoneum divided into?
parietal = lines the abdominalpelvic cavity visceral = lines the organs
what is the peritoneal cavity and what happens when too much builds up in it?
the space between the parietal and visceral layers
can cause abdominal distension
what 3 parts is the gut separated into?
foregut= oesophagus, stomach to mid duodenum midgut = mid duodenum to left colic flexure hindgut = left colic flexure to rectum
what is special about the foregut?
it has the dorsal mesentery like the rust but also has a ventral mesentery
what are the differences between retroperitoneal and intraperitoneal?
retroperitoneal = lies on posterior wall
covered by peritoneum only on anterior surface
do not suspend in mesentry
what are the 5 main peritoneal folds?
- greater omentum
- mesentery
- less omentum
- falciform ligament
- mescolon
