the periodic tablw Flashcards
What is the periodic table?
The periodic table is a table of all the chemical elements.
Explain the reactivities of Group 0 elements in the periodic table.
Group 0 elements are very unreactive because they have a stable outer shell of electrons.
What are the horizontal rows in the periodic table called?
The horizontal rows in the periodic table are called periods
Describe the reactivities of Group 7 elements in the periodic table.
Group 7 elements are reactive non-metals.
Their reactivity increases moving up the group.
What are the vertical columns in the periodic table called?
The vertical columns in the periodic table are called groups
Where are metals and non-metals located in the periodic table?
Metals are found on the left and in the middle of the periodic table.
Non-metals are found on the right side of the periodic table
Describe the reactivity of Group 1 elements in the periodic table
Group 1 elements are the most reactive metals.
Their reactivity increases moving down the group.
how do we organise the periodic table now
The modern periodic table lists the elements in order of increasing atomic number
how do we write chemical symbols
The first letter is always capitalised and if there is a second letter it’s lower case
