What does Passover remember?
The Passover remembers the Israelites freedom from slavery.
Jews remember three things:
1. God is good.
2. Death passed over the houses of the Israelites.
3. The Israelites passed over the red sea when they were escaping.
What is Matzvah
Unrisen bread
Symbolises how the bread didn’t have time to rise
Not to be to puffed up with pride- flat bread
The unleaved bread that the Israelites ate during their slavery as it bakes quickly
What do the bitter herbs symbolise
This could be lettuce or a vegetable with a bitter root
It is a reminder of the bitterness of slavery
What does Parsley symbolise
The way in which God provided fresh food
What does the lamb bone symbolise
The sacrifices in the ancient temple
What does the egg symbolise
The egg stands for the temple sacrifices, and is a symbol of new life
What does the salt water symbolise
Some food is dipped in salt water that stands for the tears of the slaves
It also stands for the sea that drowned the Egyptians
What does the Haroset symbolise
This is a kind of paste made from dried fruit and spices
It represents the mud bricks the Israelites slaves had to make
What does the wine symbolise and how many cups are drank
During the sea, everyone drinks 4 cups of wine
The stand for the four ways that God spoke about freeing the Israelites:
I will bring you out
I will deliver you
I will redeem you
I will take you to me
Red wine record the blood of the slaves who were beaten by the Egyptians
It also reminds Jews of the blood smeared on the door post of houses when the first born sons of the Egyptians died
