refuses to recant, instead escapes from tower and goes into hiding

infiltrated by royal spies
plot intercepted day before planned to carry it out
partly - many lollards arrested and it was completely crushed in the end
However, Oldcastle not arrested and goes ahead with plot with any other lollards who had not been arrested

A

executions

Oldcastle escaped into hiding again from 1414 until 1417
possible he tried to negotiate Welsh and Scottish support against Henry V
1417 found, put on trial, proclaimed loyalty to Richard II, sentenced to execution (Henry V insists on this)
Slow roasted over a fire while being hung
his last words were that he would rise again on the 3rd day

A

Oldcastle had been close to the king - more danger of plot working
many lollard supporters - potential for nationwide revolt
religious grievance led to political grievance - shows how closely linked religion and politics were and also shows that the Catholic Church were completely unwilling to change
not easily stopped - willing to die fighting for cause
Oldcastle = fanatical - only death would stop him
