What happened at the battle of Stamford bridge
Harold Godwinson and his men defeated Harald Hardrada’s army in a battle.
How did William win the battle of Hastings?
He pretended to retreat so that the English soldiers would come down from their high ground and then surprised them by turning around and attacking.

He built castles

What was the doomsday book?
It was a book that was used to write down how much money and land people had around the country.
What caused the harrying of the north?
People in the north were rebelling against William.
What happened at the harrying of the north?
King William’s men destroyed houses, killed animals and burned crops (throwing salt over them so that they wouldn’t grow back)
What were the advantages of motte and bailey castles?
They had high ground, a moat surrounding it and tall fences all the way around.
What was one disadvantage of motte and bailey castles?
They were made out of wood which made them easily flammable.
