How does hydraulic action work?
The water hits the cliffs and squeezes air into the cracks in the rocks. The air eventually forces the cracks open, making them bigger which means that small parts of rock start to crumble away.
How does attrition work?
Rocks hit each other and crumble into smaller rocks.
How does abrasion work?
The bits of rock carried by the water blast into the cliff.
How are headlands formed?
When some of the soft rock starts to erode, the hard rock sticks out into the sea. These are called headlands.
What do contour lines show?
The relief
How does corrosion work?
It is the chemical reaction between the sea and the minerals in the rocks.
How does longshore drift work?
It works by the wing pushing the waves to the shore at an angle. Then the waves pick up the sand and rocks and the waves come back to the sea at no angle. Then, the waves go back to the shore at an angle. This carries on until there is no beech left. Then the rocks and sand from the sea pile up and make spits.
