New Deal & Labour Unions felt men should be breadwinners. At a time when jobs were limited, only 1 family member could secure employment, usually men.

Women on average earned $525 during the 30s, half that of men.

1933 Economy Act forbade 2 people from same family for working for federal govt.

NRA codes allowed for unequal wages.

The Social security Act (1935) didn’t include domestic servants, 100,000s being women.
