A

Higher wages meant prices increased too so some stopped buying. CWA was abolished in 1935 and replace by PWA

A

Agricultural adjustment administration- set quotas on agricultural produce to help reduce produce and raise prices modern techniques were taught to farmers soil preservation was also taught to stop erosion some farmers were helped with mortgagesevan will fail

A

However, modernisation put some farm labourers out of work. Quotas and modernisation were contradictory. Farmers killed animals and destroyed crops even though some Americans were starving

A

public works administration- Used government money to build schools, dams, bridges and airports. E.g. Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia river.
Created millions of short term jobs.
Over $3 billion was spent

What is the EBA?

A

Emergency banking act- all banks were closed down until they had been checked by the government. 5000 trustworthy banks reopened and regulations were imposed to stop reckless speculation. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insured deposits up to $5000

A

Some small banks were not allowed to reopen which was seen as too much government interference. FDIC didn’t help wealthy people because deposit insurance was small.

What is the TVA?

A

Tennessee valley authority- Tennessee valley was a place of flooding in the winter and drought in the summer. A series of dams were built on the river to irrigate the land, control water flow, and provide building jobs. The dams were used for hydroelectricity e.g. the Fontana Dam

What is the CCC?

A

Civilian Conservation Corps- Aimed at young unmarried men between 18-25. Signed up for 6 months at a time. Mostly enviromental projects in National parks e.g. planting trees and maintaining beaches.
Earned $30 per month and most sent $25 back to their families.
2.5 million people were helped by this scheme.

A

Upset the people whose wages had been cut and gave them less money to spend. Also their awful laggy games and the fact that they consistently convince gamers to buy the same game every year also origin sucks.

What is the FERA?

A

Federal emergency relief administration- $500 million was given to individual states to pay for soup kitchens, blankets, employment schemes and nursery schools. Led by Harry Hopkins who gave out $5 million within 2 hours of setting up the agency.
