what is the role of the peripheral nervous system?
relays messages from the central nervous system to the rest pf the body. it contains sensory and motor neurons

what neurons does the peripheral nervous system contain?
sensory and motor
what is the role of the somatic nervous system?
facilitates communication between the CNS and the outside world.
it has sensory and motor pathways.
it controls voluntary movement in skeletal muscles
what is the role of the autonomic nervous system
helps maintain internal processes e.g heart rate
it is not under voluntary control as it is linked to involuntary movements
it has only motor pathways
controls internal organs and glands
what is the role of the sympathetic division?
prepares the body for fight or flight
what is the role of the parasympathetic division?
relaxes the body and returns us to our resting state after fight or flight
what is the role of the CNS
decision making and awareness
how do the central and peripheral nervous systems work together?
the PNS transmits messages to and from the central nervous system via neurons. the CNS receives these messages and passes them to and from the brain
what is the function of brain and spinal cord?
provides conscious awareness and allows brain and body to communicate
