The Nervous System Flashcards
What is the Central Nervous System (CNS)?
Brain and Spinal cord only.
What is the Nervous System?
Brain, Spinal cord, and Nerve.
What are the 4 parts of the Brain?
Cerebrum
Cerebellum
Medulla
Spinal Cord
What is the Cerebrum?
Memory, Thought, Imagination, Intelligence, and Reasoning.
What is the Cerebellum?
Balance and Muscle Co-ordination?
What is the Medulla?
Breathing Rate and Heart Rate.
What are the 3 types of Nerves?
Sensory
Inter
Motor
What is the Sensory Nerve (Neurone)?
Electrical impulses from sensory organs to the CNS.
Impulses travel in 1 direction towards CNS.
What is the Inter Neurone?
Only found within the CNS (Brain and Spinal Cord).
It connects the sensory and motor neurons.
What is the Motor Neurone?
Electrical impulses from CNS to the muscle/gland.
Fast response=Muscle.
Slower response=Gland.
What are Nerve Impulses?
The information that triggers a nerve impulse = stimulus.
Muscle contract = effectors brings about a response.
What are Nerves/Neurons?
Electrical messages are carried along neurons.
Synapse occurs in the gap between neurons.
Chemicals transfer these messages across synapses.
