The Nervous, Muscular And Skeletal Systems (chapter 5) Flashcards
What is the human movement system? (HMS)
The collective components and structures that work together to move the body.
The nervous, muscular and skeletal systems.
What’s a kinetic chain?
The term kinetic chain is a concept used to describe the human body as a chain of interdependent “links” that work together to perform movement.
“kinetic chain” refers to how the muscles, bones, joints and nerves all work together.
What kind of cell is the Nervous system made up of?
Neurons! They are a specialized cell that is the functional unit of the nervous system.
Neurons help to transmit signals through the nervous system to communicate within the human body.
How does the nervous system send information to the body?
neurons process and transmit information through electrical and chemical signals.
List some functions of the nervous system.
1) provides the body with sensory information (examples: taste, sight, pain)
2) stimulating human movement through muscle contractions
3) keeping the heart and brain functioning
What kind of nutrients are important to keep the nervous system functioning properly?
The nervous system needs electrolytes.
- sodium
- potassium
-magnesium
- water
