Q

Trigeminal nerve

A

Largest cranial nerve, mixed sensory and motor nerve, has a semi-lunar shaped ganglion called Gasser’s Ganglion divided into

Gasser’s ganglion
1. Ophthalmic
2. Maxillary
3. Mandibular

Q

Dermatomes

A

Dermatomes are areas of skin on your body that rely on specific nerve connections on your spine

TRIGEMINAL DERMATOMES

• Areas of Cutaneous sensory innervation

  1. Anterior
    - C2, C3, C4
    - V1, V2, V3
    -C3, C4
  2. Lateral
    - C2, C4, C5

Q

OPHTHALMIC BRANCH V1

A

• • Entirely sensory
• • Divides into 3 branches which pass through the Superior Orbital fissure

Superior Orbital Fissure:
• Lacrimal
• Frontal
• Nasocilliary (cornea, sclerae, upper anterior part of nasal septum, lateral wall of nose)

I) Frontal nerve
. Supra-orbital nerve
. Supra-trochlear nerve

II) Lacrimal nerve
. Communicating branch connected to Zygomaticotemporal nerve on Maxillary branch
. Cutaneous branch of lacrimal nerve

III) Nasociliary nerve
. Posterior ethmoidal nerve
. Anterior ethmoidal nerve
. Infratrochlear nerve from nasociliary nerve

Sphenopalatine foramen (nasopalatine)
• Superior alveolar nerves
• Palatine Nerves
• Pharyngeal nerve

Infra-orbital foramen
• Anterior superior alveolar nerve

Q

Mandibular Branch V3

A

Branches of the Mandibular Nerve include:

Main Trunk:
• Meningeal branch
• Nerve to medial pterygoid

Anterior Division:
• Masseteric nerve
• Deep temporal nerve
• Nerve to lateral pterygoid
• Buccal nerve

Branches from the posterior division of V3

Lingual Nerve
• Innervation to anterior 2/3 of
tongue and lingual soft tissue
Incisive Nerve:
• Provides innervations to lower first
premolar, canines and incisors.
