Q

12 maker on whether or not you agree with the statement “God is beyond our understanding”

A

Some Muslims may strongly agree with the statement that “God is beyond our understanding” as Allah is believed to be transcendent (above everything that exists on this Earth). This is why there are no depictions of Allah in mosques or anywhere else instead the insides of mosques are decorated with scriptures from the Qur’an. Allah is not depicted to avoid idolatry/sin of shirk which is the worst possible sin you could commit in Islam. This is because because some Muslims may believe that God is so beyond our understanding that to narrow them down to an image would not be right especially if they believe the Universe was created and ordered by Allah.

Some Christians may mostly disagree with this statement because they may believe that God created humans in his own image therefore showing some understanding of God. ~~as it says in Genesis 1:27: “So God created man in his own image,” meaning that humans must have some understanding of God~~. Some Christians may also disagree with this statement as the Son from the Trinity was incarnated as human as Jesus who was born in Bethlehem; thegospels teach that Jesus had a human birth (the story of which is referred to as the nativity) and as Jesus is the Son and the Son is God meaning there has to be at least some level of understanding of God. - the story of which is referred to as the nativity. ~~Jesus is believed by some to be both fullydivineand fully human,~~

If I followed a religion I would mostly agree with the statement that “God is beyond our understanding” as I would agree more with the some Muslims’ viewpoint that God is beyond our understanding therefore there are no images depicting him. Although the viewpoint of some Christians that God isn’t beyond our understanding because humans were created in God’s image and as the Son was incarnated as a human is understandable and valid. I think that if I believed in the existence of God I would mostly agree that “God is beyond our understanding” as I think the reasons of the Muslim viewpoint outweighs the reasons of. the Christian one.

Q

5 marker on two Muslim believes about Tawhid

A
  • A Muslim belief about Tawhid is that it reminds Muslims that Allah cannot be limited by human understanding and human ideas and therefore there are no pictures that represent Him. Mosques and Muslims homes do not therefore contain pictures of Allah or the prophets in case of idolatry and the sin of shirk which is the worst sin you can commit in Islam.
  • A Muslim belief about Tawhid is that there is no other God but Allah and there is no one comparable to Him which allows Muslims to know who to listen to. In Surah 112:1-4 of the Qur’an it states “He is God the One, God the eternal. He be- got no one nor was He Begotten. No one is comparable to Him.”

Q

4 marker on “two ways the Trinity affects Christians today”

A
  • The doctrine of the Trinity teaches human beings how they should shape their lives as many Christians see the relationship between the persons of the Trinity asproviding a recipe for the best sort of human relationships. This may help Christians be able to sustain relationships with others stopping positive relationships from ending from misunderstandings.
  • Since the Holy Spirit lives within us, we should look after our bodies and not indulge in anything which may harm us, ie drugs meaning we should also strive to look after ourselves mentally and physically. Therefore, the Trinity may help Christians to be the best versions of themselves
