The Nature Of Electromagnetic Waves Flashcards
Electromagnetic spectrum
The electromagnetic spectrum is made up of radio waves, microwaves, infrared rays, visible light, ultraviolet rays x-rays, and gamma rays.
electromagnetic wave
An electromagnetic wave is a transverse wave that involves the transfer of electric and magnetic energy.
Radio Waves
Electromagnetic waves with the longest wavelengths and lowest frequencies.
Microwaves
Microwaves have shorter wavelengths and higher frequencies than radio waves
Radar
Radar is a system that uses reflected microwaves to detect objects and measure their distance and speed.
Infrared Rays
Infrared rays are electromagnetic waves with wavelengths shorter than those of microwaves. They have higher frequencies and therefore more energy.
Thermogram
A thermogram is an image that shows regions of different temperatures in different colors.
Visible light
Visible light are electromagnetic waves that you can see with your eyes.
Ultraviolet rays
Electromagnetic waves with wavelengths just shorter than those of visible light are call ultraviolet rays.
X-rays
Electromagnetic waves with wavelengths just shorter than those of ultraviolet rays are called X-rays
Gamma rays
Electromagnetic waves with the shortest wavelengths and highest frequencies are gamma rays.
