What is the British law on abortion? (Give two details)
A
Allowed (before 24 weeks) if two doctors agree that:
- the mother’s life is at risk
- the mother’s physical or mental health is at risk
- the child is likely to be born severely handicapped
- there would be an effect on other children in the family

Why is abortion a controversial issue?
A
- When life begins is arguable (conception or birth or inbetween)
- Should medical staff have to carry out abortions if they believe it is unethical?
- Whether or not abortion is murder
