Q

What do step up transformers do

A

They increase the p.d - 400,000v from the power station to the transmission cables and decreases current so that it can travel long distances and minimize energy lost as heat.

Q

What do step down transformers do?

A

They increase the p.d - 230v from the power station to the transmission cables and increases the current so that it’s at a safe level for consumer to use

Q

How is TNG efficient?

A

Resistance causes heating which is wasted. Increasing the p.d at which current is transtired, same amount of power can be transferred using smaller current.
