Electrical Energy Transfers Flashcards
What does the amount of energy an appliance transfers depends on?
How long the appliance is on for
The power rating of the appliance
How do appliances transfer energy electrically
Through either batteries or AC mains
Examples of everyday appliances
Vacuum cleaner transfers energy electrically from the aAC mains to the kinetic energy stores in the motor
Kettle transfers energy from the AC mains electrically to the thermal energy stores of heating element inside
What happens when a charge flows through a circuit
Work is done. The amount of energy transferred can be calculated - energy transferred = power x time
Or
Energy transferred = charge x p.d
Power rating
Every electrical appliance has a power rating - tells you how much energy it needs to work.
Eg - a High power appliance uses more energy in less time compared low power appliance
