What type of detective is Poirot?
Poirot is a retired private detective, called upon by Flora. He proves to be more skilled in solving crimes than trained police. Left to his ‘little grey cells’ to solve.
What elevates Poirot’s detection skills?
Poirot focuses on facts, using a methodological and logical approach and minor details that will eventually expose the criminal.
Caroline?
She is alert to gossip and works out some truths, such as that Mrs Ferras’ overdose was non accidental and provides Poirot with that essential information. But is diminished in comparison to Poirot as she is the closest to Sheppard being his sister, et does not solve the crime and also that she is a women, her skills are discredited.
Sheppard?
We assume for most of the novel that he is adopting the role as the helpful sidekick. He is the hard-boiled detective, immoral and a reflection of the imperfect society in which he inhabits
