The Mole Flashcards
1
Q
What is the amount of substance?
A
- It is a quantity referred to as n to count the number of particles in a substance.
- Measured in a unit called the mole (mol).
2
Q
Avogadro Constant
A
- The Avogadro constant is 6.02 x 10^23 mol-1, the number of particles in each mole of carbon-12.
- 1 mole is the amount of a substance that contains 6.02 x 10^23 particles.
3
Q
Molar mass
A
- Mass per mole of a substance. Units: gmol-1
- n=m/Mr
4
Q
Molar gas volume
A
- The volume per mole of gas molecules at a stated temperature and pressure.
- At RTP, 1 mole of gas molecules has a volume of approx. 24 dm3
- At RTP molar gas volume is 24dm3mol-1
- n = v (dm3) / 24
