The Mole Flashcards
How do you fine miles when given the number of Particles of an object?
You divide the number of particles given by Avogadro’s number
What are the poly atomic elements?
S 8
P 4
How do you Find the number of moles with a given mass of an element or compound?
You would divide the given mass by the molar mass of the element or compound
What is the definition of a mole?
The number of atoms in 12g of carbon- 12
How much particles is one mole?
6.022 x 10^23 particles
What is Avogadro’s law?
States that the same volume of gas contains the same number of particles at the same temperature and pressure
What is one mole of gas at STP in litres and centimetres cubed?
22.4 L/mole
22400 cm3/ mole
What is one mole of gas at room temperature in litres?
24.0 L/mol
What does 1 litre equal in centimetres cubed?
1000 cm3
What does 1000 litres equal in meters cubed
1 m3
What is the formula for the concentration or molar ity?
C=n/v
How many grams are in a kilogram?
1 kilograms= 1000 grams
How many mililitres are in a litre?
1000
If given a concentration and a volume then are asked to find the concentration with a new volume number what formula would you use?
C1V1=C2V2
How do you find percent composition?
You divide the mass of each element by the total mass of the compound then make that a percent
How do you calculate the empirical formula?
Find the moles of each element in the compound (divide the mass given by the molar mass of the element) then take the smallest moles in the compound and divide every individual amount of moles by it and that’s the number after the letter in the formula
Do you use sig figs for empirical formulas?
No
How do you find the molecular formula?
Divide the given molar mass in the equation by the molar mass of your empirical formula. Then multiply that number by all the number after the letter in your empirical formula
