The Model-Walk | Trot Flashcards
Sit in land on your feet position
And be balanced over your horses back
Neutral spine
To grow tall
Rest your foot in the stirrup but do not press down (newtons law of a force pushing back) ➡️ allows you to find the right balance between “up” and “down”-leave the joints to be shock absorbers
Don’t press in the stirrup
When you rise in the trot the knee acts like the center point of a circle
The thigh bone is then the radius of that circle-as you rise the lower leg does not move and there is barely any weight in the stirrup
The top and bottom of the riding trot-your “block” goes up and down where if the horse came out from under you
You would land on your feet
Both ends of the horse come right once his back comes right
And this can only happen when the RIDERS back comes right
Think of stringing the bow when thinking about bringing the horses back up
Use your inner thigh to bring the horse up to you-no bum weight
Refuse to hollow your back
And the horse CANNOT hollow his
Absorb the up down of the sitting trot
In the hip knee and ankle joints-not in the lumbar spine
Hold the lumbar spine, thighs calves and the feet rigid
Absorb the shock in the joints-hip, knee and ankle
Use your thigh muscles to hold you up-horse seeks the rein and brings his back up to you
Your inner thigh, knee and top of boot pressed into the saddle
Mold the horse onto you with your inner thigh
Avoid weight in your bum-it squashes down the horse’s back-hold yourself up-don’t treat him like an armchair!
No weight in the stirrup as you rise
Loose joints-puppet ridged everywhere else
Use your core, ribs, and back to turn up into down-secret to sitting the trot and canter
When you sweep you are
Bearing down
When you are sneezing, coughing and giggling you are
Bearing down
