The Mind (Learning) Part 1 Flashcards
3 categories of behaviour
Reflexes, Instincts, Learned Behaviour
Reflexes
Inevitable responses to stimluli
Instincts
Inborn Patterns of behaviour elicted by environmental stimuli (fixed action patterns)
Learned behaviour
Relatively permanent changes in behaviour due to experience
3 types of learning
associative, non-associative, observational
Associative learning
Formation of associations or connections among experiences and behaviours
Non-associative learning
An organisms reaction to a stimulus changing overtime
Habituation
Reactions to repeated stimuli that are unchanging and harmless decreases
Sensitization
An increased reaction to many stimuli following exposure to a strong stimuli
Observational learning
Occurs when one organism watches the actions of another (social learning)
Conditioned stimulus
(CS) an environmental event whose significance is learned through classical conditioning
Unconditioned stimulis
(UCS) a stimulus that elicits response without prior experience
Conditioned Response
(CR) A response learned through classical conditioning
Unconditional response
(UCR) a response to an unconditioned stimulus that requires previous experience
