The Mind (Learning) Part 2 Flashcards
The element of suprise
When the pairing of a CS and UCS occurs in a suprising manner, this leads to stronger conditioning
Taste aversion
Some combinations of Cs and UCS can be learned faster
Applications of Classical Conditioning
Aversion therapy, systemic desensitization, addiction
Aversion therapy
Behaviour therapy that aims to eliminate a bad behaviour by associating it with a bad experience (CS is paried with bad UCS)
Systemic desensitization
Therapeutic technique used to treat phobias and anxieties
Operant conditioning
Thype of learning where behaviours are strenghtened or weakened based on the consequences that follow (rewards and punishments)
Positive reinforcement
Increases the frequency of its associated behaviour by providing a desired outcome
Premack Principle
Whatever behaviour an organism spends the most time doing, the likely it is to be important
Negative reinforcement
Method for increasing behaviours that allow an organism to not face unpleasent experiences
Positive punishment
Consequence that eliminates the freqeuncy of a behaviour by applying an aversive stimulus
Negative punishment
Method for reducing behaviour by removing something desirable
Successive approximations
A method of increasing the freqeuncy of behaviour that doesnt or rarely occurs (shaping)
Latent learning
Learning that occurs in the absense of reinforcement
Applications of Operant Conditioning
Token economy, behaviour therapies
Token economy
A token economy is a behavioral modification technique that uses tokens, such as points, chips, or other symbols, as a form of reinforcement to encourage positive behavior.
