What was the clan system?
The clan system made sure everyone lived in peace and harmony. It was a type of identification and it organized sharing resources
Describe the Mi’kmaq connection to nature
Nature was an important part of the Mi’kmaq people’s life. They believed they were not separate from the mountains, trees and forests. The Mi’kmaq was no better than nature. They never wasted resources and they never took more than what they needed from nature.
How was the Mi’kmaq government?
There was one Grand council leader and seven district chiefs(one from each district). Then it went down to the Council of Elders and the Local Chiefs. After that came the Villages and Bands
How did they make decisions?
Everyone would voice their opinion or issue. Everyone would discuss it until they all agreed. If one person didn’t agree, they would have to start the process all over again.
What were the roles of the women??
The women took care of the children and their homes. They were responsible for making sure their families had all they needed to live a good life. They prepared food and hunted for small things. Their opinion was valued when making decisions
